Golden Egg Fossils – Rare Pyritised Limestone Fossil Nodules

Golden Eggs Are Rare Fossil-Bearing Limestone Nodules Featuring A Naturally Occurring Iron Pyrite Shell, Commonly Known As “Fool’s Gold.” These Striking Natural Formations Are Highly Unusual, And Only A Small Number Contain The Delicate Eleganticeras elegantulum Ammonites That We Hope To Reveal. Of Those That Do, Only A Very Select Few Possess The Quality Required To Reach The Final Polishing Process.

The Polishing Stage Is A Careful And Time-Intensive Procedure That Takes Many Hours To Complete, Gradually Revealing The Rich Metallic Pyrite Surface And Producing The Distinctive Luxurious Golden Finish For Which These Specimens Are Known.

Because Naturally Occurring Examples Are So Rare And Difficult To Source, We Have Also Created A Small Number Of Implant Specimens. In These Pieces, An Authentic Ammonite Or Fossil Bone From Yorkshire Or MadagascarHas Been Expertly Set Into An Empty Golden Egg Nodule, Creating A Beautiful And Unique Display Piece.

Each Specimen Is Clearly Labelled As Either (GENUINE) Or (IMPLANT) So That You Know Whether The Fossil Was Naturally Preserved Within The Nodule Or Carefully Set Into The Stone During Preparation. Both Types Require An Equal Level Of Time, Skill, And Care To Produce, And Each Makes An Exceptional Display Piece And Conversation Feature.

Every Specimen Is Supplied With An Information Sheet Detailing The Specimen And A Polishing Cloth To Help Maintain The Beautiful Finish Of Your Fossil.
