Collection: Whitby Snakestone Ammonites – Mythical Yorkshire Fossils UK

Discover the famous Whitby Snakestone Ammonites, inspired by the legend of Saint Hilda of Whitby, who is said to have turned snakes into stone along the cliffs of North Yorkshire. This historic tale has long been associated with the ammonites found on the Yorkshire coast today.

In Victorian times, ammonites were often carved with snake-like heads to honour this legend. Here at Yorkshire Fossils, we continue that tradition with our unique interpretations, including Hydra, Rammonite, and Animalite designs.

Each piece is an authentic Yorkshire ammonite fossil, carefully prepared and enhanced with optional “birthstone” style eyes for a personalised finish. Eye colours can be customised on request, making each piece truly individual.
